Austria as a tour and holiday destination
Say ‘Austria’ and it conjures up images of elegant buildings, classical waltzes and delicious pastries. But Austria is much more than that, with sparkling Alps, pristine countryside and an active cultural scene.
Vienna, the capital, is the epitome of cultivation, with magnificent palaces and Baroque and Art Nouveau architecture. Sit in a cafe and enjoy pastries with a delicious hot chocolate in the winter months whilst snow dusts the buildings outside, or enjoy the pomp of the Spanish riding school, where horses parade around an indoor hall ridden by immaculately dressed riders. The green spaces of Vienna and the Danube River snaking through cry out to be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.
Outside of Vienna, head to the charming capital of the Tyrol province, Innsbruck, to make the most of its Alpine location and ski centres in the winter, or for hiking in the summer, with the reflection of the Alps glistening in the Inn River. Or head to Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart and the setting for the famous ‘The Sound of Music’ film and enjoy the music that seems to envelop you as soon as you enter the city. The world-famous Salzburg Festival takes place in the summer, with operas, concerts and theatre performances throughout the city, bringing Salzburg alive.
