Finland as a tour and holiday destination
Finland, with around 180,000 islands and a similar number of lakes, combines remote wilderness with buzzing cities.
Helsinki, the capital of Finland and the ‘daughter of the Baltic’, welcomes visitors with a small-town feel whilst being a thriving city. The Art Nouveau buildings, parks and carefully preserved museums add to the charm of this city. Helsinki also celebrates festivals in style, whether it’s the Helsinki-Paiva, the birthday of the city with concerts, exhibitions and performances, or the Joulu, the open-air Christmas market sparkling with festive lights.
Oulanka National Park in northern Finland offers an 80km trail through river valleys, pine forests and over suspension bridges, with the chance to camp in traditional wooden cabins and discover the beautiful local flora and fauna of the park. The Lapland region is also not to be missed, with its winter wonderland in the winter, midnight sun in the summer and the chance to see the Aurora Borealis, the Nothern Lights.
