Hungary as a tour and holiday destination
Hungary, situated in East Europe, is unlike any other European country, with a distinctive language and culture all of its own, making it one of the most popular tourist destinations of the world.
Budapest, the capital, is split in two by the wide Danube River, Buda is on the west bank of the river, whilst Pest sits on the eastern side. Explore the most famous sights of Budapest on Castle Hill, with a visit to the Royal Palace, and admire the views towards Pest from the Fisherman’s Bastion. Even the bridges spanning the Danube River are elegant and lead to downtown Pest, where the crowning jewel is the neogothic masterpiece of the Parliament Building and St Stephen’s Basilica, the main church of Budapest. Relax in the outdoor thermal baths as snowflakes drift downwards for an authentic Hungarian experience.
Travelling towards Croatia, visit the largest lake in Hungary, Lake Balaton, with picturesque towns such as Keszthely, Badacsony and Balatonfured lining the northern edge of the lake. July sees the cross Balaton swimming contest, with 8,000 participants and hiking is also possible up in the northern hills for those after outdoor pursuits.
