Malaysia is not the obvious place for a holiday, although this country in south east Asia has a lot to offer. Malaysia is located on two large islands, separated by the South China Sea, which contains many smaller islands. The country offers diverse scenery, ranging from lush tropical rain forests to beautiful white beaches, while the capital Kuala Lumpur is a dynamic mix of modern architecture and colonial buildings. It is home to the iconic Petronas Towers, once the world’s tallest building.

A holiday in Malaysia appeals to those who have already been to the more popular Asian countries, as well as those looking for adventure travel. The country offers trekking, bird watching and some of the best diving spots anywhere in the world, where you can swim and dive with sea turtles, rays and small sharks. Some of the best beaches anywhere can be found here too, many of them rarely visited and you may have the sand all to yourself. Many tourists visit Malaysia for the beautiful temples and shrines, as well as the affordable shopping. Good buys are pewter, silk and jewelry and the huge night market in Kuala Lumpur attracts thousands of shoppers. Although progress still needs to be made, eco-tourism has also become popular in Malaysia.

Malaysia has two peak tourist seasons, and many people go on holiday to the country in December and January, and from June to August. The temperature fluctuates little during the year, ranging from 73F to 90F and March and April are the wettest months. Malaysia hosts a series of events throughout the year and if you holiday here in July, the Rain Forest Music Festival takes place in Sarawak, while the country celebrates its independence at the end of August. Whether you visit here for the scenery, the food and culture or the beaches and diving, a holiday to this relatively unknown country is an unforgettable experience.
