Singapore as tour and holiday destination
Singapore is one of the most modern, westernized cities in Southeast Asia. It is a clean, efficient city-state, known for great shopping and good food. It is also a major air travel hub, and many travellers on intercontinental flights stop in Singapore for a few days’ holidays their way to other Asian destinations or to Australia. Singapore is a safe city for families, and for a first-time visitor to Southeast Asia, it is a good starting point. Accommodation is generally more expensive than in other countries in the region, but it is also of a very high standard.

One of the best things about Singapore is its food. The city is famous for its delicious and hygienic street food that is also very affordable. Although Singapore is more expensive than some other destinations in the region, eating out is a mostly cheap and very good value for money. Hawker centres and food courts serve affordable food, or you can treat yourself to a luxurious five-star dinner in one of the excellent restaurants. Shopping is a popular activity in Singapore and the most famous shopping area is Orchard Road. Here you can find luxury shopping malls, designer stores but also street fashion, restaurants, bars and cinemas. Orchard Road is also a popular area for an evening out.

Singapore has many festivals including all the festivals in the Chinese calendar, and Chinatown is a good place to experience the Chinese New Year. The climate in Singapore is hot and humid most of the time and tropical rain showers happen often. The best way to move around Singapore is the modern and efficient Mass Rapid Transportation system or MRT. There are also many city tours that take in the main attractions. Singapore is an excellent destination for shopping and for anyone who loves good food.
