Thailand as a tour and holiday destination
Thailand is Southeast Asia’s most popular holiday destination, and it receives millions of tourists every year. Thailand has islands and tropical beaches, mountainous areas in the north, and exciting cities such as Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Many visitors love the islands in the south. Thailand is a friendly and relaxed holiday destination with attractions for all types of travellers: there is ancient culture, beautiful architecture, beaches to relax on, luxury resorts and excellent food.
Must-visit places in Thailand
Most international flights land in Bangkok, and anyone in Thailand for the first time should spend a few days in this cosmopolitan city. Bangkok is a vibrant city with great shopping, many tourist attractions and a busy nightlife. Northern Thailand’s Chiang Mai is a more relaxed alternative. Northern Thailand is a mountainous area with great hiking opportunities, forests and nature reserves, and fascinating culture with indigenous villages in the mountains. The south is best known for its beaches, and some of the most popular beach holiday destinations include Phuket, Hua Hin, Koh Samui and Pattaya. Thai food is famous around the world for its delicious flavour and its spiciness.
Best time to visit Thailand
Thailand’s climate is generally hot and humid. The winter season from November to February is the most pleasant time to visit. March to May is very hot even in the north. The monsoon season starts around June, but it is still possible to visit Thailand — especially its cities — during monsoon. Some areas in the countryside or in the mountains can be difficult to travel around in the rainy season. Major festivals and celebrations in Thailand include Buddhist festivals around the year, the Sonkgran water festival in April, and several festivals in the fall season. Thailand is a safe, friendly and attractive destination for all types of travellers, and most visitors come back year after year.
