United Kingdom as a tour and holiday destination
The UK is made up of four different countries, each with their own traditions: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The compactness of this country means that combining many destinations in one trip is very feasible, as is visiting mainland Europe too – Paris is a mere 2 hours or so away from London by high-speed rail.
Visit London and see the sights such as Buckingham Palace, or Westminster Abbey, soaking up the history as you go. Or perhaps take in the art scene instead at one of the city’s many free art galleries or museums. Watch a show on the famous West End, then choose from the many cuisines on offer for dinner. Take a trip to the Cotswolds, an area of outstanding beauty, and see bygone Britain, or perhaps stay in elegant Bath and take in the splendid architecture. Liverpool, home of the Beatles, guarantees a good time, and can be a good place to explore northern England from.
Scotland’s windswept landscapes are the stuff of novels, and give travellers the chance to be surrounded by nature. The capital, Edinburgh, is a delightful contrast to London, with an active arts scene throughout the year and an action packed New Year’s Eve, the Hogmanay.
