Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1 Arrive Auckland

Depending on your choice of transport, collect your rental vehicle or be met and privately transferred to your accommodation. Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city, home to sheltered, sparkling blue waters dotted with beautiful emerald islands. Overnight: Auckland.

Day 2 Auckland - Waitomo - Rotorua

Depart Auckland through the stunning Waikato countryside to Waitomo Caves. Here your guide will lead you on an exploration of the ancient Waitomo Glowworm Caves, with its many different cave formations, before descending further underground for a cruise on the grotto river with thousands of glowworms glittering above your head. Continue to the geothermal wonderland of Rotorua. Overnight: Rotorua.

Day 3 Rotorua

Rotorua is surrounded by a fascinating geothermal landscape with its unique steam vents, spouting geysers and bubbling mud pool set alongside freshwater lakes and majestic native forests. Spend the morning viewing the highlights of Rotorua. This might include Lake Rotorua, Government Gardens and watching the white-water rafting at Okere Falls. Visit the working farm at Agrodome to view sheep shearing, the remarkable farm dogs in action and the farmyard nursery. Afternoon at leisure. Overnight: Rotorua.

Day 4 Rotorua - Taupo - Rotorua

Make a day visit to Lake Taupo today. Stop enroute at Wai-O-Tapu for a self-guided walk through the region’s most colourful geothermal park. Continue to Taupo to view the thundering Huka Falls, the surging release of rapids at the Aratiatia Dam and the scenic beauty around the lakefront. Return to Rotorua for a guided tour Te Puia’s Maori Arts & Crafts Institute, Kiwi Conservation Centre, geothermal valley and geyser. End the day with an Evening Cultural Performance with traditional songs, haka and Buffet Dinner. Overnight: Rotorua.

Day 5 Rotorua - Hobbiton - Auckland

Depart Rotorua for the Hobbiton Movie Set to experience a charming, guided tour of unique, character Hobbit homes and gardens just as you see in the movies. Finish the tour in style with a visit to the Green Dragon Inn for a beverage and a sumptuous lunch at the Party Marquee before heading back to Auckland. Overnight: Auckland.

Day 6 Auckland Departure

Arrangements conclude today with the return of your rental car or departure transfer to Auckland Airport.
