Extending along the mountain for 800 meters, reaching depths of up to 50 meters, and standing eight floors high, Vardzia served both as a defensive fortress and a Christian monastery, centered around the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin. Continue your exploration with a visit to the Jvari Monastery, a 6th-century Georgian Orthodox monastery near Mtskheta, also designated as a World Heritage site. En route to Tbilisi, make a stop at the Chronicles of Georgia monument, a creation by Zurab Tsereteli that stands 30 meters tall, depicting the history of Georgia and scenes from the life of Jesus Christ.
